PA 700S - No "A" Output

Post by y2krankor » Sat Aug 05, 2017 6:48 pm

I was gifted a Peavey PA 700S mixer and a few speakers. I've run into a problem, though. Neither of the speaker "A" output jacks seem to be working. The "B" output jacks are just fine, and will drive any combination of the speakers with no problem.

Any ideas what I should look for? I'm a bit leery of opening the thing up, but I'd really like to get this beastie working.

Thanks!

Did you ever get it figured out?

Not yet. I've got the unit open, but I haven't had time to put meters on things to figure out what's happening. The inside was relatively clean, considering that I don't think it had ever been opened. Plenty of dust, and only a few spider webs.

I am assuming that the channels are not all panned to the B channel.?

Definitely not. I panned everything over to A, even, and no luck.

However, I think I may have found the issue. Maybe. It's hard to say for sure...

There is a capacitor jumping between the power switch and the top A jack that I think may have failed. It's labeled as a Paktron 022 +/- 20% 125VAC EVL, which I gather is either a Paktron EVL750-223MAC or EVL750-223MACL1 (I'm not sure which, though). There is no corresponding part going to the B jack. I did try the power switch in both positions.

If it's not a single point of failure device, then that could be the issue but most likely won't. If the capacitor is in series with the power line then.. that could be your issue. Does it show any signs of distress?

It doesn't look bad, but there's no continuity across it.
