Wireless mics--9 volt or AA batteries?

Post by colliedogboy1 » Tue Feb 16, 2016 1:38 am

Anybody have any thoughts about which might be better--a wireless mic which uses AA batteries or one which uses a 9-volt battery?

AA batteries. They tend to last longer and are less expensive. I think most newer designs use AA batteries and older designs use 9V.

Thanks, Darren. I am trying to help our local school Drama Club find wireless mics to use in their productions and I'd like to put them onto the best type for them to use and maintain.
I think you're right about the older models. I have a 1990 wireless EV handheld which uses a 9-volt battery. I have, in the last decade, begun to use fresh batteries from less expensive sources such as Dollar General. I always toss them after an event, anyway, so I don't really need a battery that lasts 7 or 8 years. I test every battery with a tester before an event to be sure it will get the job done. Still, as you say, the AA batteries are much cheaper, so I will look in that direction.
