Pimp my Vypyr (Head Cab Build)
Pimp my Vypyr (Head Cab Build)
No this isn't another de-fang project. Well, it is, but not really.
(in my eyes) the Vypyr looks so booooring. I find that plastic fang thingie looks tacky. A lot of folks think so too, since a lot of people de-fang their Vypyrs. But that's not enough for me.
I loved my jam session with the Vypyr Tube 60 yesterday so much (got it Thursday) that I decided to make her a new dress. It was my intention to eventually build a head cab for the amp, but I didn't think I'd have the time right away. But I did today ;D ;D ;D ;D :
I left my house at 2PM to cut the plywood at my buddy's house since my father had his table saw at the cottage. Got that done, gathered my tools, then off to my dad's shop. Oops back home because I forgot my tools. I'm starting to know my way around his shop so I didn't have to learn anything new for this project. I was done by 5PM.
I needed to dry fit the amp itself to make sure my measurements were correct, which (incredibly) they were.
I'm spray painting the inside of the cab black tonight. Time permitting, I'll cover the head tomorrow (Labour day rocks).
I had ordered extra hardware when I built my 2x12 vertical cab in case I'd want to do something like this, so I'll be good to go once the amp is covered.
Oh, and here's a few gut shots of the Vypyr:

Good work dude
I have been thinking about turning my 30 into a head and building a matching cab.
Have you got any pictures of your vertical cab???

Man, that looks great. I hope Peavey starts building the tube 60 in a head version.
Re: Pimp my Vypyr (Head Cab Build)
Great job, both on the head and cab! Show us the 'stack' when totally finished.

looks great dude really good job..
Re: Pimp my Vypyr (Head Cab Build)
Almost there!
I covered the head today:
Installed the $20 worth of hardware:
I covered it with croc print leather (cow hide) I bought on Ebay a little while back. The hide cost me about $40 + shipping.
Butt shot:
It will go well with my 2x12" cab. The head will be at eye level when sitting so it'll be tweak mania. I won't be needing the Pod X3 Pro and EQ with my rig, so I'll remove that cab. The POD will go on my desk.
I'll go to the fabric store and/or craft store tomorrow to see what I can do for the face plate. What you see in the pictures are leftover leather and plywood that I spray painted.
I'm going to try to find some vinyl diamond plate (black or gold) or maybe just do the black part with the same material I used for the 2x12 cab.
I dunno ... I'm a bit tired of working with my hands. I need to drink a few beers and chill.

Good work, very cool. I can see the same future for used Tube 60's down the road. Perfect amp to make into a head. Nice job.
