Peavey Vypyr 15 Preset Foot-Switch WORKS!

Very cool mod,for the 15! I have an Idea.
Ok,we need a 10-conductor cable,right?,and,a socket for transportation convienience,right?
Here's my Idea:
You must have 'mastered' some good soldering skills to do this.

**********This Modification will VOID your WARRANTY,Proceed with caution*************

***********Un-Plug*********The*********AMP******************************

(1)Find an old,discarded desktop computer tower,that would otherwise go to the trash.

(2)Gather some good quality multi-colored hook-up wire

(3)Take out the IEEE socket(printer output)...2 of these would be better,but,1 will work.....see where this is going yet?

(4)Install one of the IEEE sockets on the Vypyr back,(this will void your warranty!)will need to 'cut out'a rectangular sized hole big enough for the socket.(this is where wiring gets complicated)as the diagram posted shows,in the previous post.A voltmeter set to Ohms would be a 'plus' for the wiring,to the pedal.

(5)(optional)Install the other socket on your homebrewed footpedal.

(6)Now,with almost everything USB nowdays,if you are like me,you probably have a few printer cords in a 'junk'box somewhere.Also,some of the 'older' ones are shielded,another plus!

(7)If you did the wiring right,you now have a pedal'out'jack.

(8)Can't find another IEEE socket?just cut the plug off the'pedal'end,and,solder directly to the switches.Keep notes on what color goes where.

You Bet!,I've always got some 'Wheels Turnin' about recycling stuff folks usually throw away.When I get my Vypyr 15,in next week,I might look into this.Thanx!
-Or,any other type of multi-conductor connector would work.The possibilities are endless.Radio Shack used to sell multi-conductor cable by the foot,back in the 'old days'.Since they cut their SKU's down,I doubt they still have it.It was called "data cable".
Printer cable is pretty big diameter stuff,but,it's all I could think of that came to mind,as most of us still have one somewhere.I'll Google "10-conductor cable",and,see what we can get for this project.Sounds awesome.

i actually saw your video on youtube, thats what inspired me to to the mod in the first place. you are one of the few people ive seen who actually have done this and made it public. i actually am lookin into the stompbox mod next.

The stomp mod is pretty simple, the confusing part is the physical wiring of the switch you choose. Driegs mod kit is the best way to go.

After seeing a few videos and some posts on the forums, i decided to make my very own footswitch for my Vypyr 15. I know Sanpera isn't compatible, and i wasnt going to spend money on a midi adapter for the circuit board. So i made a box with 5 switches, 1 to each preset (4), and 1 to the bank switch, and wired them to the circuit board directly onto the original switch contacts. Pretty sweet if you ask me. And it works perfectly.

what do you all think about it?

Ill post more pics and give more detailed instructions if y'all want.

the way i showed you does make it so u cant unplug it, however, you can buy a 10 pin connector of some sort and wire it to the existing wires you have. i plan on doing this once i find a connector.

8 conductor lan cable and rj45 lan jack worked well for me. Home despot or the like will have it.

i dont have one, i just kinda winged it. the pictures i have in the document should be somewhat helpful.

Bravo ! Necessity is the mother of invention.

As you may progress in you electronic abilities something you may want to consider for your future mechanical switch designs; some switch debounce circuitry. It remedies the potential for glitches.
