This is my second Vypyr VIP 3, the first one was dead out of the box. I have a very loud crackling noise, very evident in the sustains. This video was done on a Strat, but I've also verified it happens with an Ibanez RG450 and ESP Snakebyte (I know the Vypyr is supposedly touchy with EMG pickups, that's I verified with 2 passive guitars). I also swapped the cable to try and eliminate any variables.
I did my example here with the factory default Legend model the amp boots up into. I searched the forum, but the problems are so varied I had trouble finding my exact issue.

Guess who has a perfectly working amp, a month later?
Don't know, but it sure isn't me!

That crackling sounds more like a bad speaker then a problem with the amp.

I'll let you know if/when I ever see it again!wmjones wrote:That crackling sounds more like a bad speaker then a problem with the amp.
Thanks for the input. If the speaker was going bad, don't you think the symptom would change with volume? This sound didn't, whether the amp was cranked or all the way down to 1 it did the same thing.

Just to wrap up this up in the event anyone else experiences it. I got the amp back today and the warranty center said some processing board was bad. All the info I have is that it was something modeling and not power related. I guess I'll keep the amp since I have the Sanpera II and a 2 year warranty, but saying this had turned me off to Peavey products would be a huge understatement.
