I have a collection of gen 1 Vypyrs, and these are the effects and tones I use most.
Green- Classic and Bcat, both with squeeze, delay and reverb. One is brighter, better suited for Fender guitars, and the other is my BB King tone, great for blues with a Les Paul. Country, Swing, Blues, R&B
Turn on the rotary and you've got a B-3 sound.
Slip on the octaver and you've got 80's synth tones.
Red- Bcat, delay and reverb. Add a LP, dial it in and you can do Zep, and make it scream and squeal. Allman Bros, Stones, Southern Rock, Blues, Classic Rock at your fingertips with authority. Love it!
Add the pitch shifter and you're in Ramble On territory.
Green Brit- Slapback and reverb. Rockabilly heaven with single coils.
Red 6505- delay and reverb. Mayhem, feedback and general badassery. SWEET.
These are the tones I use 99% of the time. My main blues tone and red bcat tone sound good on every guitar I've ever plugged in, and that is HUNDREDS. Everything sounds good, even crappy guitars. Any other tones or amps I might flip on is just rooting around.
I have used the Vypyrs in the studio to record Classical guitars, Acoustics, mic'd and plug in, Solid, hollow and semi-hollow electrics in every genre imaginable. Harps, Flutes, and more, direct out of the Phones jack to the recorder. So much more control than trying to mic guitars.
In the studio, I have been able to dial in just about ANYTHING I can imagine or try to copy. In fact, I would say the only tone I've tried to dial in that I cannot is the "You Really Got Me" early Kinks tone. Anyone out there got that one?
Apparently, everything else is in there if you know how to work these babies.
Band in a box. Totally Vypyryzed!

Re: Tones I use
You'll need to take a razor blade to your speaker cones and choose Brit Red at a guess !
Re: Tones I use
I really like (and use) B-Kat green a lot. I set it up as my default setting.
Plexi-red gets a good bit of use.
I rarely venture into the left-hand side of the model selections.

Re: Tones I use
The dark side! I rarely go there either, only for big feedback. Used the 6505 red on one of my new tunes, and it was a hoot. Like riding a bucking bronc. It was fun and delivered in spades the old classic rock/metalish tone. I play mostly swing and country, green settings, so it was a blast.
