Vypyr 30 Speaker OEM Replacement?

Post by sambot » Tue Feb 07, 2017 10:15 am

Long story short: basement flooded and ruined the 12" Blue Marvel speaker in my beloved Vypyr 30. Amp components are fine... just damage to the speaker (phew!). So I need a replacement speaker. I'd like to get an original (so if you've upgraded your Vypyr 30, I'll buy the orig!). Any way to get an OEM from Peavey? Anyone replaced theirs with something better and have any recommendations?

call peavey parts. They likely have the 30w speaker. I got a 60w vypyr speaker new from them, cost me about $60 delivered. It is your best bet unless you find a used one locally.

I saw a Craigslist ad today, where a guy is selling two of them (he pulled two 12" Blue Marvel's to install something else).

I can forward the ad if you like.

Not quite the same speaker, but they would work. I'd go with an original if you liked it. With shipping, those used ones will cost you more than a new one from Peavey.. YMMV.

Thanks all. Just got a response from Peavey: $60 plus $15 shipping for the OEM. Yikes. I'll be patient and see if anything turns up on Reverb/eBay/Craigslist. I've seen complete Vypyr 30s go for around $100 on Craigslist. Maybe it just makes more sense to seek out a used complete unit. Maybe turn the damaged one into a head… hmm…

I do have the 12" speaker from a Laney Cub 12r kicking around. Similar power handling and impedance. Concerned that it will be voiced all wrong for a modeling amp though. Thoughts? Thanks!

Only one way to find out. Slap that bad boy in there.

You're right about the amp vs. speaker IMHO. You could get a 75, which is a noticeable upgrade over the 30 in bottom end grunt.
