VIP 3 Settings for Duane Eddy sound

Post by GrandpaJack » Sun Jul 02, 2017 5:03 pm

I've been looking for the 1950s-60s sound of Duane Eddy for a LONG time (I'm 76 now!) ... and thought I could emulate his sound on a Vypyr VIP 3. That was three years ago ... still haven't found it, came close, but not close enough. Here's an example of that sound: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xskC4E2jmss . It contains reverb ... I think some rotary ... but don't think it uses a "twin" amp ... but, I could be wrong. If anyone has come up with some Vypyr VIP 3 settings that come close to that sound - I sure would like to find out what those settings are! GrandpaJack

Hi GrandpaJack!

Here is my stab at this tone.

I have a VIP 2. Should still work.

Clean twin / tremolo / no delay / reverb

Clean twin:
Pre 5th light bright
Bass 3rd light bright
Mid 6th light bright
Treb 4th light bright
Post 6th light bright

The above settings can be changed to suit your guitar and ears.
Same with the below settings. Imo, a good place to start thou for the below settings.

Set the tremolo:
P1 knob: the 5th light bright and the 6th light dimmed
P2 knob: the 3rd light bright

No delay

Reverb: the 5th light dimmed and the 6th light bright

Oh, and turn up that master volume.

Dwayne developed his style in the 1950's when there was no solid state amps. To get the Dwayne Eddie sound you need a clean tube amp model, I use the 6505 green amp. The sound also has a slight echo which the VIP does not have. You could use a third party stump echo box. Other wise the setting stated by (vypyrtrails) is real close. Use the treble pickup.

Is the Fender Twin on our Vypyrs modeled after a solid state amp?

Is it Dwayne or Duane? It seems his tone was chased like EVH and others of their perspective time.
Way cooL!

I spelled his name wrong. It is Duane. I thought the Twin was a SS amp. I stand corrected
, it is a tube amp.

Running through my VIP 2 while connected to the computer, I came across the slap back effect.
Add this to the above. Add delay too. I know I said no delay above, yet add it too.

Delay
Feedback: the 3rd and 4th light bright
Level: the 4th light bright

Slap Back:
P1 knob: the 3rd light dimmed and the 4th light bright
P2 knob: the 2nd light bright

Whatcha think GrandpaJack...... :?:
