Transformer pc editor

Post by vypyrtrails » Sun Jul 23, 2017 11:33 pm

What amp is the transformer pc editor for?

I wish this was for the VIPs........

I would really like the ability to adjust the noise gate, and a lot of other cool things to change too.

I'm guessing its for .... the Peavey Transformer.

Actually, I've never heard of it - sounds like the Vypyr's predecessor.

Thanks Landshark! Thanks for the link! Really cool stuff. Someone took some time and effort on that page.

Has anyone played one of these amps, to compare to the Vypyrs???

I like the tweek ability that amp has to offer. I should clarify, the tweek ability on the computer end of it.

Quick search on youtube, not much out there on this amp to see and hear.

I used to have the Transformer 212.
It was a beast! Great sound through 2 Sheffield 12' speakers in stereo.
I sold it, because I wanted a 4x12' setup with my Vypyr 120 head.

Peavey's 'transtube' technology was still in its early stages back then, so the Vypyrs are a lot more tube-like. But there where a lot of great sounds possible on the Transformer. The best feature, as I remember, was that you could select different speaker simulation types for each ampsim. Also, the effects were fantastic (maybe because they were stereo...), AND it had an effects loop !!!

Here is a newer version of the website provided by Landshark with a comparison chart between Transformer & Vypyr:

Damn, talking about it makes me whish I hadn't sold it... :(

Thanks Fastwind for your time and effort on my behalf!

2x12, effects loop, fantastic effects, speaker sims, and Sheffield speakers in stereo

Those clips sound really, really good! Very amp like! I was searching for more gainier tones.
Those tones you posted are very impressive thou.

I like the foot controller better for the Transformer amongst other things too.

Fastwind, did you have control over the effects themselves....Like if you used the phasor, you could bring the loudness of the
effect to where it was not over powering?? With my VIP 2, the effects are either too much, or not enough. Volume drop with the
fuzz effect and no way to correct any of this. I can't control the noise gate either.

Thanks again! :)

No sounclips on more heavy settings, I'm afraid.
These amps where on the market before Youtube even existed, so...

Here's a link to the manual, so you can see exactly which parameters were adjustable:
https://assets.peavey.com/literature/ma ... 304703.pdf

Off course, because there was an effects loop, you could use any external effect you'd like.

Ahhh, life before the youtube / and cell phones.

my only gripe with the Vypyr Pro - the modulation effects are WAY too much.

you want some subtle chorus/flange/phaser effect? nope, you get sci-fi movie sounds, even with the controls at zero.

bought a Digitech multieffects unit just for the modulation stuff.

This is what keeps me from investing anymore money in the Vypyr series. I was thinking of up grading to the Pro, yet
I can't see doing so and settling for sub par effects. Spending $900 between the amp and the foot controller......

My VIP 2 is just short of amazing with the clean selections. The gainier stuff, very convincing at low volume, but turned up is
disappointing. I know this is all just my opinion.

Again, IMO, the VIP series is a Great Craiglist find. Find one on the cheap that is working, don't worry about getting the foot controller
and you got a great around the house when people are sleeping amp. Especially for the more gainier tones.

On the other hand, put an effects loop on the VIPs, smaller foot controller( like the Transformer) , access and ability to change the effects( like the Transformer), and where their placed in the chain......

I was so desperate to try anything, I tried to hook my VIP 2 to the Transformer pc editor. It recognized the connection, but not the amp. :x

Unfortunately, a Peavey Transformer 112/212 is going to be very hard to find these days...
Here are some adds for a Transformer (in the USA):
http://www.espotted.com/peavey-transformer-212
http://www.espotted.com/peavey-transformer-112
(maybe some are still available?...)

The cheapest solution would be to do like Landshark did: buy a cheap (but great) effecs-pedal and use that in front of your VIP2.
You could buy a digital effects-pedal with plenty of effects (like a Digitec, Zoom or Line6 for under $100).
Or you can use several old-fashioned stomp-boxes (like the 'good' old days  )...

I found that the Vypyr VIP sounds great with effects in front of the amp. Off course, you'll still need to use the reverb and delay on the amp itself, 'cause they need to be last in the signal chain...

Thanks Fastwind for the tip on espotted! Never heard or seen espotted before. Is trust worth??

I have some reservations about buying older gear like this thou. Even thou its solid state, parts do age, and may be hard to find.

I agree with you about the VIP takes pedals in front really well. I use my MXR phaser pedal this way. If my VIP had an effects loop
I would go 4CM. My VIPs noise gate is set bad. Really noticeably cuts out when not playing the gainier stuff as well as on the clean.
No way to adjust this either.

I have been looking at everything again....Even tube combos :|

Too bad Peavey, or some member on here can't get into the software of the VIPs and make the adjustments to the effects and noise gate.
J_fury68 has a kick butt effects loop mod!

J_fury68 has a kick butt effects loop mod!

The effects loop mod would be great, if you're feeling adventurous...
It still leaves the noise-gate problem, though...

In the end, if you like the sound of the Vypyr, the Vypyr Pro would give you the best results. It has everything the VIP has, plus A LOT more.
Look at the plus-points:
- You have the same great Vypyr-sound
- You can set-up the noise gate (or turn it off all together),
- you can put the effects in any order you like (exept for reverb & delay)
- you can even use multiple amps in parallel (ex.: a Peavey classic 30 + a Marshall Plexi) and blend them (choice of 27 amps!)
- the Vypyr Pro has an input-attenuator (so you can fine-tune the amp to your guitar's output)
- You can adjust the 'Resonance' (for floppy or tight bass)
- There is a build-in DI with speaker simulator, so you can send the signal straight to the PA without miking the amp
- An easy-to-use editor via computer
- An effects-loop
- For playing at home, you can dial down the power from 100 Watts all the way to 1Watt (it really works!)
-...

In fact, the only negative things in reviews I have read were the sensitivity of the effects and the price of the Sanpera Pro.
The effects are not a problem; just put your favorite effect in the loop. If it has midi, you can program it along with the amp.
As for the Sanpera, you can use other (cheaper) midi-controlers like the Beringer FCB1010 or the Sanpera I or II.

Damn, I sound just like a salesperson right now, sorry
But you have to admit: it IS a stellar amp for the price...

i bought my Vypro brand new for $513 (Sweetwater matched Guitar Center's 20% discount).

Amp and Sanpera Pro can be had used now for even less. There is one on eBay now for $415 shipped. A used multi-effects unit is less than $100 - the bonus to this is that it frees up the model bays in the Vypro.

I bought it, and kept it, for the amp tones. The built-in effects weren't even a concern. I've been using Digitech effects for a while (2112, GSP1101, and now RP360xp), so i figured i was going to be using an effects "supplement" anyway.

Thank you Fastwind for your words of wisdom! I agree it is a Stellar amp! You have made Fantastic Points.

Maybe I just need to step up to the Pro! I know I adore the clean settings. I love music, from the Beatles to Van Halen. My VIP 2 gives
me a Great Beatles tone, like from the very, very early records. I think the Pro would get me the rest.

Do you work for Sweetwater? I want to make sure you get the credit for the sale :!:

Thanks for sharing and repling!

Very Much Appreciated!

Landshark, how are you controlling all this? The Sanpera Pro is huge and then add another floor processor...

I could do without most of what the Sanpera can do, except I would like to have control over the 4 amp selections.

Thanks for opening my eyes to the possibility's too!!

Much Appreciated!
