One man band with ampkit options

The AmpKit LiNK audio interface raises the audio fidelity bar for the iPhone platform. AmpKit LiNK is an iPhone, iPod touch* and iPad interface for electric guitar, bass, or any line level source, with an output that can be connected to headphones, powered speakers or a PA.

One man band with ampkit options

Post by iamdave » Tue Sep 27, 2011 6:27 pm

OK, looking to downsize my rig big time. I have an ipad and the ampkit. Backing tracks are on the ipad. I am getting an alesis io dock to connect the mic and guitar into. My idea is then run that line out to the front of house and monitor speakers. End of story. No amps, mixers, etc.

Any thoughts on this? Anyone doing anything similar?

Jamming around I noticed I can play through the ampkit while itunes tracks is playing. So it seems to be possible. Just wondering how well it might work. I can imagine many solo performers / duet etc. loving something like this. The tones seem pretty nice.

I downsized from amps etc. (old school) to a laptop running guitar rig but the laptops live are a pain. Tough to see in the outdoor gigs and sometime start up issues. Then I went to a line 6 hd500 with a mixer to mix vocals, sometimes keyboard and guitar along with ipod tracks. Having got the ipad and seeing the io rack I'm thinking I can really downsize now.

The problem with a lot of live festival gigs is very short setup / tear down time between bands so I'm wanting a fast setup and very few things to carry. Anyhow, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. lol! Hoping for some input and thoughts from other users.

I know not a lot have answered, and I'm certainly biased, but we do exactly what you describe pretty frequently.

Most often, our guys are hooked straight into the house mixer, or direct to the PA. You can see a lot of examples in our Youtube channel http://youtube.com/user/agilepartners/

What interface do you use? The ampkit link doesn't seem to be one you'd use professionally. I have the alesis io dock. Only issue I've found so far is adding reverb to the vocals as you can connect a mic right to it.

I may have to send everything to the snake...

The IO Dock and the Jam are both great devices. However, in every case that you see in that channel, we're using AmpKit LiNK.
