Defanged Tube 60 & 75

Post by Eddie Haskell » Mon Mar 22, 2010 2:19 pm

Here are some pics of my defanged Tube 60 & 75. These pics were taken with my cell phone so sorry about the quality. I used an old line level cable I had laying around to fill the gap, cut to length and just a little bit of glue to hold it in place. This mod cost me $0.00 to do and took about 15 minutes each. I think it looks a lot more old school, as I am way to old for the fangs. But to each his own. Feel free to comment.

P.S. I had some sticker residue (Sticky Stuff Left On From Removing Sticker) on the 60 where the gold part is on the front panel right next to the guitar input jack, I used Goof Off on it to get the residue off and it took the finish (Shine) off of it. So beware of using any chemicals on the gold part of the front panel.

Ok, I want to do this to mine too. I even though about cutting something out of wood to put back on there in place of the fangs.

My question is, as stupid as it may be, what is holding the fangs on? How do I remove them?

Oh yeah, and it looks good man. It looks like a classic guitar amp this way which I think is better than with the fangs.

Thanks for the kind comment. The fangs are held on by 4 little screws on the inside up top, I turned the amps upside down (Face Down) to get to them, one off them is a little hard to get to so I used a stubby screw driver for that one. I also put the screws back in to fill the holes back up after I put a little black magic marker on the ends so they would'nt show through the grill cloth, and a little glue to hold em in tight.

I've used Goo Gone instead of Goof Off for removing sticker residue on lots of things, and I think it's generally safer to use.

Ya Ive used Goof Off on stuff for years and never had it do anything like this. I think it just dulled the plastic coating thats on the front panel not real bad but it is noticeable. That coating is real real sensitive to chemicals I guess. I mean I just used a tiny little dab of it on a rag and wiped it real gently a couple of times and it did it so be careful you all.

This was my defang job on my 75...used some cheap wood and bought some tolex online...routered out the spot where the Peavey logo badge goes so it's sunken into the wood a bit.

Looks pretty sweet bro. Kinda makes it look more sturdy. I might do something like that when the weather warms up. To cold here in Kansas City MO for this old man to be out in the garage. Come spring though it will be on. How does the 75 sound through the JSX cab?

Never mind I just saw ur other post.

merry xmas ya'll. i too, defanged my Vypyr 30 this am. i used a premature babies stethoscope tubing(greyish blue in color), and its 'the funk' now drilled a couple of small holes up top, and in the high middle and hand screwed them in. i've been looking at my amp for a few weeks now, and have been wanting to take the 'fangs' off. thanks to this site, i found out how to get them off. the the stethoscope tubing was used and placed in the 'vacant' space at the top of the speaker cloth and under the control panel. what a difference.....looks similar to a 6505 amp now!
rock out ya'll
