Hooking up a sub as an external cab

Post by drsgtpepper » Wed Sep 25, 2013 12:43 pm

Just want to see if there are any issues if I hooked up a subwoofer for some extreme deep bass sounds to the external cabinet jack. Any thought please? Thank you.

What kind of cab? Impedance of cab? Amp?
To BASS or Not to BASS is the question.

How about a KB4 amp? What would be a good external speaker choice if your using it with electronic drums. Would it have enough power to push a sub to get bigger bass drum sound? Any suggestions? 12", 15". I don't know much about these things. What speaker would you choose?

I just bought a used KB4 and I am looking into doing the same thing, hooking up a subwoofer to the external speaker jack. I use keyboard amps for my electronic drums (Alesis DM10X) and electronic mallet controller (Alternate Mode malletKat). Keyboard amps work very well in handling the transient hit the speaker(s) takes when running percussion sounds through it.

I'll post further if I have anything interesting to add. Meanwhile, this will give the thread a nudge if anyone else wants to chime in.
