Peavey Helps Make History With 'Afterschool' License Tag
PEAVEY INT'L. HEADQUARTERS — Licensed drivers in one Southern state can now support afterschool programs in their communities simply by upgrading their car tags. Peavey Electronics and the Mississippi Afterschool Alliance are helping Mississippi become the first state to offer a car tag that benefits afterschool programs. The group unveiled the tag on November 28 during the Meridian Lights On Afterschool rally.
"Mississippi is home to more than half a million youth between the ages 5 and 17," said Mary Peavey, President of Peavey Electronics, "but Mississippi has only been able to cover 9 percent of requests for afterschool funding.
This car tag, which can be ordered now at www.afterschoolms.org, allows us all to make a difference in our own communities." For the $30 extra that drivers will pay for the tag—which bears the slogan "Afterschool Is Key"—$24 will benefit afterschool programs in the purchaser's home county.
Peavey Electronics Corporation, a global supplier of musical instruments and professional sound equipment based in Meridian, provides online and marketing support to the Mississippi Afterschool Alliance. The Mississippi Afterschool Alliance is a non-profit association organized under the Mississippi Rural Education Association, and is affiliated with the Afterschool Alliance, a nonprofit awareness and advocacy organization working to ensure that all children and youth have access to afterschool programs by the year 2010. More information on the Afterschool Alliance is available at www.afterschoolalliance.org.
