The original Decade™ amplifier is a not-so-hidden secret for raw, tenacious tone — and the Decade™ Pedal packs it into an amp-in-a-box for your pedalboard.
Originally released in the early '80s, the Peavey Decade™ amplifier gained a cult following for its raw, gritty tone, quietly becoming a go-to for players chasing unconventional edge and saturation. Now, as Peavey brings the legendary amp back to life, its unmistakable voice also returns in compact pedal form with the Decade™ Preamp.
A faithful recreation of the original 1980 circuit, the Decade Preamp Pedal captures the full character of the amp that started it all. Its switchable Saturation mode acts like a second channel, delivering rich harmonic overdrive at the flip of a switch. Pre and Post Gain controls, a responsive three-band EQ, and a hard bypass switch with anti-click circuitry ensure clean integration into any signal chain. Powered by a standard 9V supply, the pedal internally boosts to 24V, delivering the headroom and dynamic range that defined the original.
The Decade Preamp belongs to the Peavey Legacy Preamp Series, which features miniaturizations of iconic Peavey amplifiers that have become highly sought after in recent years. While others have tried to capture these tones, only Peavey can deliver the genuine article. Each pedal is built with premium components inside a rugged die-cast enclosure, from the high-quality pots and switches to the fiberglass PCBs with 2-ounce copper and plated-through holes. Every control and cosmetic detail reflects the original amps, while the sounds stay true to their legendary tone... without the weight. With output levels adjustable for both instrument and line-level applications, the Decade Preamp is as flexible as it is faithful.
Rooted in history, built for now, the Decade Preamp carries the same spirit of innovation that defined the original, reborn for a new generation of players.

The Peavey Decade Preamp Pedal is a re-creation of the Decade amplifier's preamp section, delivering the same sonic character as the amp. Players describe the sound as "wiry" and "crunchy" with notable midrange emphasis.
A lot: the Decade Preamp pedal features the same switchable Saturation circuit as the combo amp version. At maximum Saturation, the Decade Preamp pedal reaches fuzz-like levels of gain and harmonics.
Preamp pedals like the Decade Preamp give you the same tone shaping and gain staging functionality you would have with an amplifier's preamp section. Along with tone shaping, a preamp pedal boosts your guitar's signal to an appropriate level to send to a power amplifier.
Yes you can plug the Decade Preamp pedal directly to an amp's input to use it as a powerful drive pedal with versatile EQ. For the complete "amp in a box" experience, plug it into an amp's FX loop return so you can bypass the amp's preamp completely.
Technically yes, but the Peavey Decade Preamp pedal does not have any onboard cabinet or speaker emulation. You will want to use a cab sim pedal or plug-in to complete your tone.
Yes: the Decade Preamp pedal is essentially the authentic preamp section from the Decade Too amp popularized by Homme's tone with Queens of the Stone Age.
Standard 9V battery or pedalboard power supply. The Decade Preamp pedal internally increases the voltage to 24V for higher headroom and greater dynamics, but it does not require a special higher-voltage power supply.
