The sound of modern metal

The 6505 Series is well known for its distinctive tones and genre-defining sound. After bursting onto the hard rock stage in the early 90’s, the 6505 Series tube guitar amps went on to create the sound of modern heavy metal. There are no metal amps more important to today’s sound than the ones found in the 6505 Series. If you’re in a heavy metal band today, or considering forming one in the near future, the 6505 Series tube amps are a foundational piece to craft your signature sound.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 6505 MH sound like the full-size amp, or does the mini size make it sound different?

The 6505 MH features two channels with the same gain structure and voicing of the full-size 6505. The lower wattage of the 6505 MH does mean you will have relatively less clean headroom before breakup occurs.

With 20 watts of power, is the 6505 MH loud enough to play with a drummer?

20 watts of tube power can get pretty loud, and could perform well in a small-band format if the other musicians are using amps of similar power. Keep in mind that your volume is largely determined by the sensitivity of your speakers, not just the amp's wattage.

How do the 6505 MH's lower wattage modes affect tone and volume?

With the 5-watt and 1-watt settings, the 6505 MH will begin breaking up into distortion earlier. You will be able to achieve "cranked amp" tones at lower volume levels.

Can I record silently with the 6505 MH's speaker defeat and direct output?

Yes. The 6505 MH has a speaker defeat switch to practice with headphones or record silently via the Microphone Simulated Direct Interface output.

How effective is the Microphone Simulated Direct Interface (MSDI) for sending signal direct to the PA or recording interface?

Extremely effective. Use MSDI to send the sound of a miked 12-inch speaker direct to the PA or recording interface, without the need to set up a microphone or speaker cabinet.

What types of tubes does the 6505 MH use?

Three 12AX preamp tubes and two EL84 power tubes.

What is the Tube Status Indicator (T.S.I.) and how does it work?

T.S.I. shows you the status of your output tubes at a glance: Green means the tubes are operating normally, Red means a tube fault is detected or may fail soon. T.S.I. is designed to alert you to potential tube failure before a gig, and will automatically protect your amp's circuitry if a tube does fail.
